Right to protest under pressure

The right to protest and freedom of expression are under pressure in the Netherlands. Two weeks ago, 200 people were arrested for attending a demonstration before they were even able to participate. Last Saturday, it was 166 people.

The municipality of Sittard-Geleen imposed limitations on a local demonstration and took an active step to impose limitations when the Mayor declared he did not approve of certain placards.

The newspaper De Limburger published an article in the issue. Various legal experts, including Jelle Klaas of the PILP, were interviewed.
