This week, the PILP, together with citizen’s ‘Trains with toilets‘ and lawyers from CMS, sent a letter letter to the provincial government of Gelderland about toilet-less trains.
The province of Gelderland has, yet again, failed to ensure to all trains would be fitted with toilets. This continues to affect the mobility and independence of different groups, such as the chronically ill, people with disabilities, and elderly people.
A copy of the letter was sent to the carriers; we hope that it will facilitate discussions and allow for a resolution. Failing this, however, we will consider legal action. This action will move to show that the province’s failure to adjust public transport to meet the needs of these vulnerable groups is, inter alia, contrary to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Law Clinic of Leiden University has undertaken a study on the prospects of such a legal claim.
