Today, on international women’s day, the Clara Wichmann Proefprocessenfonds and the PILP have submitted a complaint to the Dutch Advertising Code Authority. The complaint regards the sexist stereotyping of the ‘Toy Boys’ advertising campaign of Suitsupply.
The PILP prepared the human rights aspects of the complaint. It is important to the PILP that by means of this complaint the Dutch Advertising Code Committee will test whether an advertisement is sexist or poses negative stereotypes, as is required by the UN treaty on women’s rights (CEDAW). This examination does not yet take place in the Netherlands, where the Dutch Advertising Code Authority merely assess the compliance of advertising with morality.
