The PILP, in cooperation with Stop Wapenhandel [Stop Arms Trade], has requested several parties to conduct research concerning the judicial possibilities to prevent arms exports to notorious and human rights violating countries. The PILPG and students from Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam, VU University Amsterdam, and the University of Groningen have conducted research on the subject of arms trade and human rights.
The research was divided into seven different subtopics:
- Dutch Law on Arms Trade;
- Dutch Case Law on Arms Trade;
- Mothers of Srebrenica v. the Netherlands (2014) and Shell/Nigeria (2013);
- European Regulations on Arms Trade – Application in the Netherlands;
- The Common Position on Arms Exports in the EU Context;
- International Trade in Arms: National Regulatory Systems;
- The Arms Trade Treaty: Key Principles Limiting Trade to Human Rights Violating States.
